Pay
Almost 100% of our staff are either in-training or fully qualified teachers. We recognise our teachers’ valuable skills and expertise and as such pay highly competitive rates.
- Centre Directors earn between $59,000 and $79,000 depending on the size of their centre, their qualifications and experience.
- Head Teachers and 2ICs earn between $26 and $34 per hour depending on the size of their centre, their qualifications and experience.
- Qualified Teachers earn between $24 per hour and $28 per hour depending on their qualifications and experience.
Childcare Discount
All qualified and registered teachers are eligible for a 50% discount after any WINZ or 20 Hours ECE discounts. Teachers in training are eligible for a 30% discount after any WINZ or 20 Hours ECE discounts.
10 Days’ Sick Leave
When working with children, teachers have a greater risk of needing additional time off work to recuperate from illness. So, we provide 10 days’ sick leave per year for all full time, permanent employees.
Free Medical Insurance
We provide all permanent employees access to a Southern Cross Healthcare Plan for free. You can also choose to upgrade your plan or include family members.
Scholarships
As needed, we offer fully paid ECE scholarships via the New Zealand College of Early Childhood Education. These are generally offered once a year and include a guaranteed job at one of our centres, all course fees and all practicums paid for.
Refer a Friend Grant
The ECE community is relatively small and word-of-mouth recommendations are important. We encourage our teachers to recommend their teaching colleagues to work for us. We provide a $1,500 incentive to staff for successful appointments of qualified teachers and $750 for teachers in training.
Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
From time to time we know that our staff may be faced with a range of issues that have a negative impact on their ability to function effectively at work or in their personal lives. The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) enables our staff to seek assistance from the network of approved counsellors and to obtain some confidential professional support.
Teacher Registration – Advice & Guidance Programme
We assist teachers to gain their full registration by providing an Advice & Guidance programme. We have two Teacher Registration Coordinators who ensure that each provisionally registered teacher has a programme to follow and a tutor teacher to oversee the programme. The coordinator will also assist provisionally registered teachers with professional development courses throughout their programme.
Professional Development
We provide Professional Development to our staff via conferences and centre-specific courses delivered by industry experts. We also utilies our extensive in-centre and external support for teachers’ growth and development in their practice to ensure that Ministry of Education requirements are met and professional standards are maintained.
