At ABC Learning Centres, we are proud that with over 90% of our 1200 staff members either qualified or in-training, we are able to provide strong internal support to all staff. We offer extensive professional development (PD) opportunities through a variety of ways to ensure that we support teachers’ growth and development in their practice to make certain that Ministry of Education (MoE) requirements are met and professional standards are maintained. In addition, we believe that PD and support provides a crucial underpinning to our values;
- We are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of our children and families
- We are committed to ensuring performance, business and education excellence
Examples of PD and Support Offered
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) conferences
- ECE workshops run by industry experts
- ECE seminars
- ECE leadership training programmes
- Appropriate courses for relevant staff members (e.g. First Aid and Safe Food Handling courses)
Additional PD and Support
As well as the above PD and support we offer, our teachers are also invited to attend ABC cluster workshops in their region facilitated by external providers or Ministry of Education (MoE) contracted professionals.
Individual centres also have external providers facilitate workshops to meet their centre needs, such as discussing topical and/or significant issues within the area.
Within our teams, there are also many experienced and knowledgeable ECE professionals who facilitate in-house professional development with groups of Area Managers, Centre Directors and centre teams.
MoE PD Opportunities
When available, we participate in MoE funded services, such as Te Whāriki (to improve the learning outcomes for infants, toddlers and young children in implementation of the curriculum) and Kei Tua o Te Pae (to improve the assessment of ECE). This requires teachers to attend workshops as a team in their centre.
Where needed, we will also apply to MoE contracted providers for other support (such as MoE PD programmes that focus on Māori and/or Pasifika children; rural and remote services; and services facing issues and challenges).
